The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the appointment of new leadership for the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) and the Marine Unit of the Nigeria Police Force. These strategic appointments are part of an ongoing effort to strengthen the operational efficiency and effectiveness of these critical units.
Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle has been appointed as the head of the Special Intervention Squad. Additionally, Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo has been appointed as the National Coordinator, to further strengthen the SIS.
The Special Intervention Squad is envisioned to include one thousand personnel in each state, with officers and men from each tactical unit of the Force. The SIS is equipped with sophisticated arms, drones, and vehicles and is ready for deployment to counteract security threats. The IGP has also integrated Special Forces into SIS operations. This integration aims to enhance the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the SIS, enabling them to better serve and protect the Nigerian public.
