In response to growing security concerns across Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has announced the suspension of all mining activities in the region. This drastic measure has been taken to ensure the safety of residents, miners, and other stakeholders as the state grapples with escalating insecurity.

Governor Mutfwang addressed the public in a statement today, highlighting that the suspension will remain in place until security conditions improve. The decision comes in light of several recent incidents where criminal elements have targeted mining operations, leading to violence, loss of lives, and disruption of local communities.

“While mining has contributed significantly to the economic growth of Plateau State, the current security situation demands immediate attention. Our priority is the safety and well-being of our citizens. The suspension of mining activities is a necessary step to address the rising threats in affected areas,” Governor Mutfwang said.

The suspension will affect both legal and illegal mining activities, with authorities being instructed to take appropriate measures to enforce the ban. Local law enforcement agencies have been directed to ramp up security efforts in mining zones, while state officials are exploring alternative solutions to mitigate the impact on the local economy.

Governor Mutfwang expressed his commitment to working closely with security agencies to restore peace and stability in Plateau State. He also called for cooperation from the mining community, assuring them that the suspension is temporary and that steps will be taken to ensure a safe environment for mining operations to resume once the situation stabilizes.
