In a disturbing incident at the Osun Obatala Festival in Osogbo, six worshippers participating in the 'Isese' religious ceremonies were injured following an alleged attack by a group of suspected Muslim individuals. The victims, who were taking part in the traditional festival honoring Obatala, a revered deity in Yoruba religion, were stoned while in the vicinity of the event.

The attack occurred on Tuesday afternoon, when the worshippers, who were peacefully engaged in rituals, were suddenly assaulted by a group identified by eyewitnesses as Muslim extremists. The attackers reportedly threw stones and other objects, injuring the victims and causing panic among festival attendees.

The victims, ranging in age from 25 to 55, sustained varying degrees of injuries and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities in Osun State have since launched an investigation into the incident, and local police have confirmed that they are working to apprehend the suspects responsible.

In a statement released earlier today, the leader of the 'Isese' worshippers, Aare Agbara, condemned the attack, describing it as an unwarranted act of religious intolerance. "This act of violence is a direct attack on our faith and our right to practice our religion freely," Agbara said. "We call on the government and security forces to ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice."

The Obatala Festival, which celebrates Yoruba heritage and spirituality, has long been a source of pride for the people of Osun State and beyond. It is a significant cultural event that attracts thousands of participants and spectators from various backgrounds.

While tensions between different religious groups have occasionally surfaced in the region, incidents like these remain rare and are deeply concerning to many within the community. Leaders from both the Christian and Muslim faiths have called for calm and have expressed solidarity with the victims of the attack.

The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has also issued a statement condemning the attack, emphasizing the importance of peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance in the state. "Our government remains committed to safeguarding the rights of all citizens, regardless of their faith or belief system. This incident will not go unpunished," the governor stated.
