The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has released a series of photographs detailing its recent attack on a Nigerian Army base in Borno State, northeastern Nigeria. According to the terror group’s statement accompanying the images, the attack led to significant casualties among Nigerian troops and the destruction of military assets.

The photographs, which have surfaced on various social media platforms, depict a devastating assault on the army base, with images showing a heavily damaged military facility. The photos display charred remains of armored tanks, vehicles, and military equipment, as well as images of what ISWAP claims are the bodies of slain soldiers. The group has asserted that over a dozen armored tanks and military vehicles were destroyed during the raid.

ISWAP’s media wing stated that many Nigerian soldiers were killed during the operation, though the exact number of casualties has not been independently confirmed by the Nigerian military. The terror group also boasted of its ability to inflict severe damage on the Nigerian Army, further escalating tensions in the already volatile region.

In response to the release of these photos, the Nigerian military has yet to provide a comprehensive statement regarding the attack or the authenticity of the claims made by ISWAP. However, military sources have confirmed that security forces are investigating the assault and have intensified efforts to secure the region.

Borno State has long been a hotspot for insurgent activity, with Boko Haram and ISWAP engaging in relentless attacks against both military and civilian targets. The Nigerian government has faced mounting pressure to bolster security in the region, as civilian casualties and displacement continue to rise due to ongoing terrorist operations.
