The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has emphasized that individuals involved in the tragic stampede that occurred recently in Ibadan, including popular media personality Oriyomi Hamzat, Queen Silekunola, and other prominent figures, must face the judicial process to ensure justice for the victims and prevent such incidents in the future.

Governor Makinde expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, which claimed several lives and left many others injured. In a statement released today, he called for thorough investigations into the circumstances leading to the stampede, which took place during an event organized in the city.

“The unfortunate events in Ibadan have left a deep scar on our community. My administration remains committed to ensuring that justice is served. No individual, regardless of their status or influence, is above the law. Everyone associated with the planning, execution, and management of this event must be held accountable,” Governor Makinde stated.

The stampede, which occurred at a public gathering organized by Oriyomi Hamzat, was marked by a lack of crowd control, safety measures, and preparedness. Governor Makinde directed the relevant authorities to conduct a detailed investigation into the causes of the chaos, including possible negligence, which may have contributed to the fatalities and injuries.

“As we mourn the lives lost, we must also focus on the future. This incident highlights the critical need for better safety protocols in public events. The judicial process will determine the role of every individual involved, and it is essential that justice is pursued without compromise,” the Governor added.

Governor Makinde also extended his condolences to the families affected by the disaster and assured the people of Oyo State that the government would be taking all necessary steps to prevent such occurrences from happening again in the future. He promised that the state government would take a proactive approach in regulating large-scale events, ensuring safety measures are strictly adhered to.
