The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has announced plans to establish five Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants in Kogi State as part of its strategic initiative to expand Nigeria's gas infrastructure and strengthen its role in the global energy market.
This ambitious plan aims to accelerate the country’s gas development, create employment opportunities, and bolster economic growth in Kogi State, a region that has remained underutilized in Nigeria’s energy development landscape. The LNG plants, once operational, are expected to contribute significantly to the country's growing energy demands and provide export potential for natural gas.
NNPC’s Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, confirmed that the project is a major milestone in the corporation's strategy to harness Nigeria’s vast natural gas resources. The plants will be built with state-of-the-art technology to ensure efficiency and sustainability while enhancing Nigeria’s position as a leader in the global LNG market.
“We are committed to improving Nigeria’s energy sector by developing robust, long-term infrastructure solutions that will not only support the domestic energy market but also place Nigeria at the forefront of global LNG exports,” said Kyari. “The decision to set up these plants in Kogi State is in line with our vision of decentralizing Nigeria’s energy infrastructure and fostering sustainable economic development across the country.”
The LNG plants are expected to bring numerous benefits to Kogi State, including job creation, infrastructure development, and an increase in local business opportunities. This initiative will also align with the federal government’s efforts to boost industrialization and foster regional development in Nigeria’s energy sector.
