A fire incident occurred yesterday in Kwara State, resulting in significant damage to a residential bungalow after a nine-year-old child playing with matches inadvertently sparked the blaze.

The fire, which broke out around 2:30 p.m., quickly spread throughout the structure, consuming furniture, appliances, and other household items. The child's parents, who were at home at the time, managed to escape unharmed, but the property was severely damaged before emergency services arrived.

The Kwara State Fire Service was promptly alerted, and firefighters worked tirelessly for several hours to bring the flames under control. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and there were no reports of serious injuries.

According to authorities, the fire was caused when the young child, left unsupervised, was playing with matches in a room of the bungalow. This incident highlights the dangers of leaving children unattended in environments where flammable materials are present.

The State Fire Service has issued a statement urging parents to be vigilant about fire safety and to keep matches and other fire-starting tools out of the reach of children. They emphasized that early detection, proper supervision, and the installation of fire safety equipment in homes can help prevent such tragedies.
