U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) issued a forceful statement today condemning recent military strikes against Iran and warning against the United States being drawn into another costly and unnecessary war in the Middle East.

Speaking in response to the escalating tensions, Sanders drew parallels to past U.S. military interventions, stating, “In the 1960s, the United States government lied to the American people and took us into a terrible war in Vietnam. In 2002, we were told Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. That was also a lie. And now, once again, the American people are being misled.”

Sanders emphasized the devastating human and financial toll of these past conflicts, noting the loss of thousands of American lives, the deaths of countless civilians abroad, and the trillions of dollars spent. “We cannot allow history to repeat itself,” he said.
