A prominent Nigerian activist has called on the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex socio-cultural organization of the Igbo people, to take a decisive stand in advocating for the release of a respected Igbo chief who has been detained following remarks perceived as threatening to invite the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to Lagos.

The activist, whose identity is being withheld for security reasons, expressed deep concern over the implications of the chief's detention, which they believe could set a dangerous precedent for freedom of speech and cultural expression among the Igbo community. The chief was reportedly taken into custody after making statements that were interpreted as inciting potential unrest by suggesting IPOB's involvement in Lagos affairs.

"The Ohanaeze Ndigbo must not remain silent in the face of this injustice," the activist stated. "We are calling on them to mobilize their resources and influence to ensure that our brother is released immediately. This is not just about one individual; it is about protecting the rights and voices of all Igbo people across Nigeria."

The activist emphasized that the chief's comments, while controversial, should not warrant detention. They argue that engaging in dialogue and addressing grievances through peaceful means is essential for fostering unity and understanding among Nigeria's diverse ethnic groups.

The call to action comes amid rising tensions surrounding IPOB's activities and the broader implications for regional security. The activist urged Ohanaeze Ndigbo to leverage their platform to advocate for peaceful resolutions rather than punitive measures against community leaders.
