In a significant gesture of compassion and unity, Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has granted pardons to five inmates in commemoration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary. This act of clemency was announced during the Governor’s state broadcast on October 1, 2024.
Governor Mutfwang emphasized that the pardoned inmates had demonstrated exemplary behavior and significant rehabilitation during their incarceration. This decision aligns with the Governor’s commitment to uphold the principles of justice, mercy, and reintegration as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution.
“Today, as we celebrate our nation’s 64th Independence anniversary, we also celebrate the spirit of forgiveness and second chances,” Governor Mutfwang stated. “These individuals have shown remarkable improvement and a genuine desire to contribute positively to society. It is in this spirit of renewal and hope that we extend this gesture of mercy.”
The Governor also called on all citizens to embrace peace, unity, and compassion, urging them to reflect on the progress made and the challenges that lie ahead. He reiterated his administration’s dedication to fostering development, security, and prosperity for all residents of Plateau State.
The pardoned inmates, whose identities remain confidential, will be reintegrated into society with support from various state programs aimed at ensuring their successful transition and continued positive contributions.
