In a statement released today, Auwal Danladi Sankara, the Commissioner for Special Duties in Jigawa State, has vehemently denied allegations surrounding his recent arrest by the Kano State Hisbah Board. Sankara, who was apprehended for allegedly engaging in an illicit affair with a married woman, Tasleem Baba Nabegu, claims that the charges against him are politically motivated.
The Hisbah Board confirmed that Sankara was arrested in an uncompleted building he owns in Kano following a complaint lodged by the woman's husband, Nasiru Bulama. The board's Director General, Dr. Abba Sufi, stated that the arrest was made possible through intelligence tracking after receiving multiple complaints regarding Sankara's alleged activities. In addition to the adultery charges, Sankara is also under investigation for operating illicit drug centers disguised as hotels
In his response to the arrest, Commissioner Sankara asserted that the allegations are part of a larger scheme to undermine his political career. "This is not just about me; it is an attack on my integrity and a calculated move by those threatened by my position and influence," he stated. "I am confident that the truth will prevail in court."
Sankara's legal team is preparing to contest both the adultery allegations and the accusations related to drug operations when he appears in court on Monday, October 21. He emphasized his commitment to clear his name and restore his reputation.
"This is an attempt to tarnish my image and distract from the important work I am doing for the people of Jigawa State," Sankara added. "I will not be intimidated by these politically motivated attacks."
The case has garnered significant media attention and raised questions about the intersection of personal conduct and political accountability in Nigeria.
