President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially appointed the inaugural Governing Board of the North West Development Commission (NWDC), a significant step towards fostering sustainable development in the North West region. The announcement was made today through a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Following the signing of the North West Development Commission Bill into law on July 24, 2024, President Tinubu has submitted the names of nine distinguished individuals to the Senate for confirmation. This newly established board is tasked with spearheading initiatives aimed at economic empowerment, social development, and infrastructural growth across the region.
The appointed members are as follows:
Chairman: Ambassador Haruna Ginsau (Jigawa)
Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer: Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji (Kano).
Board Members:
Dr. Yahaya Umar Namahe (Sokoto), Hon. Aminu Suleiman (Kebbi), Sen. Tijani Yahaya Kaura (Zamfara), Hon. Abdulkadir S. Usman (Kaduna), Hon. Engr. Muhammad Ali Wudil (Kano), Shamsu Sule (Katsina), Nasidi Ali (Jigawa).
In his statement, Onanuga emphasized that the newly appointed board members bring a wealth of experience and expertise that will be instrumental in fulfilling the NWDC's mandate. The Commission is expected to play a pivotal role in addressing the unique challenges faced by the North West region while promoting sustainable economic growth.
President Tinubu reiterated his unwavering commitment to supporting the NWDC in its mission, stating, "The establishment of this Commission marks a crucial milestone in our efforts to catalyze significant growth and development in the North West."
