The All Progressives Congress (APC) has achieved a remarkable victory in the local government elections held across Kwara State on September 21, 2024. The party successfully secured all sixteen chairmanship positions and all one hundred and ninety-three councillorship seats available in the elections, as announced by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC).

The results were officially declared early this morning by KWASIEC Chairman, Mr. Mohammad Baba-Okanla, during a press briefing at the commission's headquarters in Ilorin. Mr. Baba-Okanla commended the political parties, voters, and security agencies for their roles in ensuring a peaceful and orderly election process, highlighting the enthusiastic participation of the electorate.

In his remarks, Mr. Baba-Okanla stated, "The peaceful conduct of this election reflects the commitment of all stakeholders to uphold democratic values in our state. We are grateful to the people of Kwara for their active involvement and to the security agencies for maintaining law and order throughout the voting process."

The APC's clean sweep of all available positions underscores its dominant presence in Kwara politics. The election saw participation from five political parties: APC, Accord, Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Despite facing competition, the APC's overwhelming support among voters was evident in the vote counts across various local government areas.

This electoral victory comes seven years after the last local government elections held in October 2017. The successful conduct of these elections marks a significant milestone in Kwara State's democratic journey.

The APC has expressed gratitude to its supporters and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering quality governance at the grassroots level. The party's leadership is optimistic that this victory will enable it to further implement policies that enhance community development and improve living standards for all Kwarans.
