INEC Suspend Supplementary Election in Adamawa State over Controversial Circumstances

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to a purported declaration of a winner in the Adamawa Governorship election by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Hudu Yinusa even when the process has clearly not been concluded.

Mr. Hudu Yinusa declared Senator Aisha Dahiru, aka Binani, as the winner of the election under controversial circumstances. This action of the REC is a usurpation of the power of the Returning Officer. It is null, void, and of no effect. INEC said.

In a letter signed by Barr. Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, overruled the REC announcement and ordered the suspension of the collation in the state.

INEC said that "the collation of results of the supplementary election is hereby suspended and also directed the REC, Returning Officer, and all involved are hereby invited to the Commission's Headquarters in Abuja immediately."
