In a decisive move aimed at strengthening the ongoing fight against insurgency and restoring lasting peace to the North-East region, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has officially relocated his operational base to the theatre of operations in Borno State.
This strategic deployment underscores the Nigerian Army’s renewed commitment to intensify counter-terrorism efforts against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) elements, whose activities have plagued communities in the region for over a decade.
General Lagbaja’s relocation brings direct high-level leadership and operational oversight to the frontline, ensuring seamless coordination of ground forces and swift response to emerging threats. His presence is expected to boost the morale of troops, enhance real-time decision-making, and reinforce the Army’s resolve to neutralize all forms of terrorism.
“The Nigerian Army remains fully committed to defeating insurgency and restoring peace across the North-East. My presence here is both symbolic and strategic—it is to lead from the front and ensure that all efforts are aligned toward victory,” General Lagbaja stated during a briefing with senior commanders in Maiduguri.
