AAC Rejects Opposition Coalition as “Fraudulent Elite Club” of Expired Politicians

The African Action Congress (AAC) has issued a scathing rebuke of the newly formed opposition coalition featuring former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing the alliance as a “fraudulent elite club” and “an alliance of failed, expired politicians.”

In a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Directorate, the AAC condemned the coalition’s unveiling under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform, asserting that the gathering represents a desperate attempt by discredited political figures to reclaim power and preserve a corrupt status quo.

“This so-called coalition is not a movement for the people—it is a reunion of the same political class that has looted, misgoverned, and betrayed Nigerians for decades,” the statement read. “They are united not by ideology or vision, but by their shared history of failure and opportunism.”

AAC presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Omoyele Sowore, also distanced himself from the coalition, citing the involvement of individuals he accused of past corruption, human rights abuses, and complicity in undermining Nigeria’s democracy.

The party emphasized that true change cannot come from recycled leadership: “You cannot fix a broken system with the same architects of its collapse. Nigerians deserve a new generation of leadership rooted in integrity, justice, and people-centered governance—not a cabal of political jobbers seeking relevance.”

The AAC reaffirmed its commitment to building a grassroots-driven alternative that prioritizes the needs of ordinary Nigerians over elite interests. It called on citizens, civil society, and progressive movements to reject the coalition and instead rally behind a transformative political vision.
