In a dramatic turn of events following nearly two weeks of escalating hostilities, President Donald J. Trump announced a “complete and total” ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, effectively bringing an end to what he has termed “The 12-Day War.”
The announcement, made via the President’s official Truth Social account and echoed by the White House, outlines a phased ceasefire plan brokered through U.S.-led backchannel diplomacy. According to President Trump, Iran initiated the ceasefire at 4:00 a.m. Tehran time, with Israel set to follow 12 hours later. The ceasefire will culminate in a formal end to the conflict after 24 hours of mutual observance.
“Congratulations to everyone! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a complete and total CEASEFIRE,” President Trump stated. “This is a war that could have gone on for years and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t—and never will!”
The ceasefire follows a weekend of intense military exchanges, including U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites and Iran’s retaliatory missile attack on a U.S. base in Qatar. While both Israel and Iran have yet to issue formal joint statements, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi acknowledged a halt in military operations, signaling a tentative alignment with the ceasefire framework.
President Trump praised the “stamina, courage, and intelligence” of both nations and emphasized the role of diplomacy in averting a broader regional war. The White House has not yet released details on monitoring mechanisms or the involvement of international observers.
