In a stunning and candid interview aired on Arise News Channel’s PrimeTime, former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has publicly expressed deep regret over his role in the emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling for urgent political realignment to prevent what he described as a looming national disaster.
“I just feel like I contributed to this country’s problems by bringing the evil Tinubu into power. I should do the last lap by removing Tinubu,” El-Rufai declared during the broadcast.
El-Rufai, once a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), revealed his disillusionment with the current administration, citing widespread public dissatisfaction, economic hardship, and what he termed “urban banditry” in governance. According to him, recent polling indicates a staggering 91% disapproval rating for the APC-led government.
The former governor emphasized that his current efforts are not driven by personal ambition but by a sense of responsibility to correct what he now views as a grave political misjudgment. “I have no ambition. I just feel that having contributed to bringing about this tragedy to Nigeria... I should contribute towards removing this evil that I believe will destroy Nigeria if left unchecked,” he stated.
El-Rufai also confirmed his involvement in a growing political coalition, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), which brings together figures from across the political spectrum—including supporters of Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and former Buhari-era ministers. The coalition, he said, is focused on offering Nigerians a credible alternative in the 2027 elections.
He further criticized the current administration’s failure to deliver on expectations, particularly in forming a competent cabinet. “The one thing I was almost confident Tinubu would do was to pick a sound cabinet. There is no quality,” he lamented.
