The Presidency has firmly denied circulating reports suggesting that Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has been appointed as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement released today by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, the Presidency described the rumours as “baseless, misleading, and entirely unsubstantiated.” It stressed that there has been no official communication or decision regarding any change in the leadership of the APC.

“The Presidency wishes to categorically state that there is no truth to the speculation currently making rounds in certain media platforms. Senator Akume remains committed to his duties as SGF and has not been offered or accepted the position of APC Chairman,” the statement read.

The Presidency further urged the public and media outlets to verify information through appropriate channels before dissemination, cautioning against the spread of false narratives that can cause confusion within the political landscape.

It reaffirmed the President’s full confidence in the current leadership of the APC and emphasized that any changes to party leadership would follow due process and be duly communicated to the public.
