A coalition of civil society organizations and concerned citizens has called on His Excellency, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, to launch a full-scale investigation into disturbing allegations that some government officials demanded sexual favors from women in exchange for access to empowerment forms under state-run initiatives.

The allegations, which surfaced through anonymous testimonies and social media reports, have sparked outrage across the state, particularly among women’s rights advocates and youth groups. The forms in question are part of the widely publicized empowerment programs aimed at supporting women and vulnerable populations through financial grants and business training.

“We are deeply troubled by these reports,” said Amina Bello, spokesperson for the Adamawa Women’s Advocacy Forum. “If true, they represent a gross abuse of power and a betrayal of the very people these programs are meant to uplift.”

Governor Fintiri’s administration has been widely recognized for its commitment to gender equality and social inclusion, including the launch of the Fintiri Business Wallet initiative, which has empowered thousands of women with financial support and vocational training. However, civic groups argue that such progress must be protected by ensuring transparency and accountability at all levels of implementation.

Set up an independent panel to investigate the claims, Provide a safe and confidential channel for victims to come forward, Suspend any officials found to be involved pending the outcome of the investigation, Strengthen oversight mechanisms within empowerment programs

“We believe Governor Fintiri has the political will and moral responsibility to act swiftly,” said Musa Ibrahim, a youth leader in Yola. “This is not just about punishing wrongdoing—it’s about restoring trust in the government.”

The Adamawa State Government has yet to issue an official response to the allegations. Meanwhile, advocacy groups are planning peaceful demonstrations and awareness campaigns to demand justice and institutional reform.
