In a bold move signaling a potential realignment of Nigeria’s political landscape, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai have formally submitted an application to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the registration of a new political party: the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).
The application, dated June 19 and acknowledged by INEC on June 20, was submitted under the auspices of the Nigerian National Coalition Group (NNCG). Chief Akin A. Rickets, Protem National Chairman, and Abdullahi Musa Elayo, Protem National Secretary, signed the letter requesting ADA’s registration with the slogan “Justice for All.”
The coalition backing ADA includes other prominent political figures such as former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and Dr. Umar Ardo of the League of Northern Democrats. According to the application, the party’s ideology is rooted in democratic values and constitutional principles, aiming to offer Nigerians a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Attached to the application were the party’s constitution, manifesto, logo, flag, and minutes from foundational meetings. The party symbol—a maize cob—was chosen to represent abundance, resilience, and sustenance.
Initially, the coalition explored merging with existing parties like the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), but opted to form a new platform to ensure equal footing for all members and avoid internal disputes.
