The Administrator of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Desmond Ibas, has issued a stern warning to all local council administrators, emphasizing zero tolerance for financial recklessness and mismanagement of public funds.
In a high-level meeting held with council leaders at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Administrator Ibas made it unequivocally clear that every kobo allocated must be accounted for and utilized strictly for the development of communities across the state.
“I will not tolerate recklessness in this administration,” Ibas declared. “Every single naira disbursed to councils must be transparently accounted for. This is public money, and it must be used for the public good. If you cannot justify your expenditures, you will be held accountable.”
The Administrator stressed the need for transparency, fiscal discipline, and people-centered development. He urged council administrators to prioritize critical infrastructure, health services, education, and youth empowerment projects, assuring them that his administration will support genuine efforts to uplift grassroots communities.
“I was not appointed to preside over wastefulness,” he continued. “This state demands leaders with integrity, and I will ensure the people of Rivers State feel the impact of good governance at the local level.”
Administrator Ibas also announced the establishment of a special task force to audit council expenditures and ensure strict compliance with financial regulations. The move signals a new era of accountability in local governance.
