The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully apprehended a prominent space parts dealer in Lagos who attempted to smuggle large quantities of cocaine through the international airport.

The suspect, identified as a well-known figure in the Lagos space parts industry, was detained at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on March 8, 2025, after a detailed investigation revealed his involvement in illicit activities aimed at trafficking illegal drugs across borders.

According to the NDLEA, the operation began when intelligence was gathered about the dealer’s suspicious activities, which led to increased surveillance of his shipments. A search of his cargo, which was listed as space equipment, uncovered hidden packages containing over 5 kilograms of cocaine.

The cocaine was cleverly concealed within the shipment, with the dealer attempting to pass it off as legitimate space parts bound for an overseas destination. This discovery marks a significant breakthrough in the NDLEA’s ongoing efforts to disrupt drug smuggling operations in and out of Nigeria.

NDLEA Chairman Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) commended the agency’s team for their diligence and thorough investigation. "This arrest highlights our commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy for drug smuggling. No individual or sector is above scrutiny when it comes to ensuring the safety and security of our nation. We will continue to work tirelessly to apprehend criminals who use any means, including legitimate businesses, to facilitate illegal activities," he said.
