In a resolute stand for the democratic rights of the people of Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced his intention to proceed with the scheduled local council elections, despite a formal request from the Attorney General of Osun State to halt the process.
The Attorney General, in a recent communication, sought an injunction to stop the elections, citing concerns over certain legal matters. However, Governor Adeleke, in a firm response, rejected the request, emphasizing that the local council elections will go ahead as planned.
Governor Adeleke stressed that the elections are in full compliance with constitutional provisions, aimed at fostering local governance and ensuring that the people of Osun are given the opportunity to elect their representatives at the grassroots level. He noted that the elections are an important step in ensuring transparency, accountability, and the participation of citizens in the governance of their communities.
"These elections are a fundamental part of our democratic process, and we will not allow any delays or interference that undermines the will of the people of Osun," said Adeleke. "We are committed to upholding the principles of democracy, and we will move forward with the elections as planned."
