In a decisive move to reinforce discipline within the Nigerian Police Force, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, has summoned 11 police officers for repeatedly violating the Force's social media policy. The officers, whose identities are being withheld pending further investigation, have been accused of actions that undermine the professionalism and integrity of the Force in the public sphere.

According to sources within the Police Force, the officers are being investigated for engaging in behavior deemed to be against the guidelines governing social media usage for police personnel. This includes sharing sensitive or inflammatory content, misrepresenting the Force, and spreading unapproved or unverified information on various social media platforms.

The Force’s social media policy is designed to maintain the image and reputation of the Nigerian Police, ensuring that its members act responsibly and with accountability while using digital platforms. IGP Egbetokun emphasized the importance of adhering to professional standards both on and off duty, especially in the digital age, where police officers' actions online can affect public trust and law enforcement efforts.

“The Nigerian Police Force is committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, transparency, and accountability. The recent actions of these officers are a violation of our code of conduct and cannot be tolerated. We will take all necessary steps to address this issue and ensure that such actions are not repeated,” said IGP Egbetokun in a statement released today.

The summoned officers are expected to face internal disciplinary proceedings. The police leadership has assured the public that the investigation will be thorough and fair, with appropriate measures to be taken based on the findings.

This move is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Police to enhance its internal regulations and the overall effectiveness of law enforcement in the country. IGP Egbetokun has been vocal about his commitment to restoring public trust in the force through transparency and strict adherence to professional conduct.
