In a bold statement following his recent removal as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has vehemently claimed that his impeachment was conducted under false pretenses, including the use of a fake mace.
Obasa, who served as Speaker for several years, addressed a gathering of supporters and the media, asserting that the events surrounding his removal were both unlawful and orchestrated by political adversaries with the intent to undermine the legislative process. According to him, the impeachment proceedings that led to his ousting were carried out using a counterfeit mace—an essential symbol of authority in the legislature, which raises serious questions about the legality and legitimacy of the action.
"I was removed under circumstances that cannot be justified. The mace, the symbol of the authority of the House, was fake, and this is a clear violation of our constitutional order," Obasa said. "The actions that took place were not only disrespectful to the office of the Speaker but were also illegal. This is an affront to the rule of law and democracy."
Obasa emphasized that he has always acted in the best interest of the people of Lagos State, and his leadership in the Assembly was focused on advancing the state’s legislative agenda and ensuring accountability within government operations. He vowed to challenge the impeachment and seek legal redress, calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.
