Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed concerns over the widespread misunderstanding of the recently introduced tax reform bills, stating that the legislation is essential for the economic growth and development of the state.
In a statement released to the public, Governor Abiodun emphasized that the proposed tax reforms are not aimed at burdening the citizens but at creating a more efficient and transparent tax system that will benefit all residents of the state in the long term. He called for calm and urged Ogun residents to look beyond misinformation and focus on the positive outcomes the bills are designed to achieve.
"Contrary to the fears expressed by some individuals and groups, these tax reform bills are a vital part of our administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of our people and stimulating economic growth. We are working to ensure that taxes are levied fairly, transparently, and with due consideration for the challenges faced by our people,” Governor Abiodun said.
The Governor further explained that the tax reforms would streamline the tax collection process, reduce corruption, and increase the state’s revenue base, which would, in turn, support infrastructural development, social welfare programs, and essential public services.
"We understand that tax reforms often raise concerns, but it is important to note that the goal is not to increase the financial burden on the people, but to expand opportunities for development. We are committed to a tax system that promotes fairness, accountability, and sustainability, while ensuring that the revenue generated is used judiciously to improve the quality of life for all Ogun citizens,” he added.
