Renowned lawyer, Barrister Adebayo Olajengbesi, has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to allocate the 753 forfeited duplexes in an Abuja estate to medical doctors and civil servants who have served the nation selflessly. This statement follows the EFCC’s recent seizure of these properties, which were believed to have been acquired through illicit means.
In a letter submitted to the EFCC, Olajengbesi emphasized the importance of using these assets for the betterment of Nigeria's workforce, particularly the healthcare professionals and civil servants who contribute significantly to national development despite facing economic challenges.
He argued that these properties, which were seized from individuals suspected of corrupt practices, should be redistributed to the hardworking citizens who have dedicated their lives to public service, especially in a time when Nigeria’s healthcare and civil services sectors are in dire need of support and investment.
"The allocation of these duplexes to medical doctors, who are often on the frontlines of Nigeria’s healthcare challenges, and to civil servants, who work tirelessly for the country's advancement, would be a commendable and socially responsible step," Olajengbesi stated. "This would not only boost the morale of these essential professionals but also show that the government is committed to rewarding hard work and integrity."
Olajengbesi also urged the EFCC to ensure a transparent process in the redistribution of these forfeited properties, emphasizing that due diligence should be exercised in selecting the beneficiaries based on their service records and contributions to the nation.
