In a recent public appearance, former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, addressed alarming rumors circulating on social media regarding his death. Speaking at the commissioning of the Old Garage-Oke-Fia-LAMECO road in Osogbo, Osun State, Obasanjo expressed his surprise and disappointment over the false reports that claimed he had passed away.

Obasanjo revealed that he was alerted to the rumors by a close ally early in the morning. “I was shocked when I checked social media and saw claims that I had died at midnight,” he stated. He reassured attendees and his family that he is “hale and hearty,” emphasizing that those wishing him harm will not succeed.

The former president articulated his concerns about the growing trend of misinformation on social media platforms. “This kind of rumor is not only disturbing but shows the extent to which some people misuse technology. It is unacceptable,” he remarked. He further questioned the motivations behind such malicious speculation, stating, “Why would anyone wish me dead? Those who harbor such thoughts will not escape tragedy themselves.”

During his speech, Obasanjo also took the opportunity to commend Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for his extraordinary performance in office. He praised Adeleke’s efforts in improving infrastructure and prioritizing the welfare of the people, predicting a successful re-election for him.
