The Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences has successfully dislodged illegal traders operating at the Ikotun Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) station, in a bid to restore order and ensure the smooth operation of public transportation in the area.
The operation, which took place early this morning, saw the Taskforce seize goods, clear makeshift stalls, and ensure that traders no longer obstructed the flow of passengers. The move is part of ongoing efforts by the state government to maintain cleanliness, reduce congestion, and improve the overall experience for commuters using the BRT system.
During the operation, nine traders were arrested for violating the state’s laws on hawking and street trading. They were taken to the Taskforce’s office for processing and further legal action. The dislodgement aims to prevent illegal activities and enhance safety and security for the general public.
Speaking on the operation, the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Shola Jejeloye, stated: "This dislodgement is part of our commitment to ensuring that Lagos remains a safe and well-organized environment for everyone. Street trading disrupts traffic, causes environmental hazards, and poses a threat to public safety. We will continue to carry out operations like this to restore order and ensure that public spaces, especially BRT stations, are accessible and clean for all residents."
The Taskforce also warned that traders found flouting the state’s regulations will face arrests, fines, and confiscation of their goods. Authorities urge residents to support these efforts by reporting illegal trading and other activities that disrupt public spaces.
