In response to a recent altercation between officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osogbo, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has mandated a thorough investigation into the incident. The clash, which was captured on video and has since gone viral, raised significant concerns regarding professionalism and inter-agency cooperation among Nigeria's security forces.

The confrontation occurred at Elizabeth Estate in Osogbo when police officers attempted to arrest a suspect but were reportedly obstructed by NSCDC personnel who were on duty in the area. Following this initial encounter, it is alleged that police returned two days later, leading to a physical altercation with NSCDC members. Eyewitness accounts and video footage depict a chaotic scene where both parties engaged in a violent exchange.

In a statement issued late Saturday evening, IGP Egbetokun expressed his disapproval of the unprofessional conduct displayed during the incident. He emphasized the necessity for all law enforcement agencies to maintain respect and camaraderie while executing their duties. "It is essential for the successful execution of our duties that we honor and respect all colleagues and members of other services within the confines of the law," he stated.

The IGP has directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11, Osogbo, to conduct a discreet investigation to uncover the root causes of this altercation. Egbetokun reiterated his commitment to fostering collaboration among security agencies to ensure public safety and uphold the integrity of law enforcement operations across Nigeria.

This incident has prompted further discussions among state officials, including Governor Ademola Adeleke, who has convened a meeting of the State Security Council to address recent security developments and reinforce operational protocols among security personnel. Governor Adeleke expressed concern over the rising tensions between different security agencies and called for adherence to established operational codes.
