The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has issued a statement following widespread reactions to National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, addressing Aminu Ado Bayero as the ‘Emir of Kano’ during a recent public event.
The incident occurred amidst ongoing tensions in Kano State, where Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf recently reinstated Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano, following the repeal of the state’s Emirate Council Law 2019. This law had previously created five additional emirate councils and first-class emirs, including Aminu Ado Bayero.
In response to the public outcry, the ONSA clarified that Mallam Nuhu Ribadu’s remarks were not intended to undermine the current legal and administrative decisions in Kano State. The statement emphasized that the NSA’s comments were made in a personal capacity and did not reflect any official stance or directive from the federal government.
“We urge all stakeholders and the general public to remain calm and refrain from actions that could escalate tensions,” said Zakari Mijinyawa, spokesperson for the ONSA. “The National Security Adviser respects the decisions made by the Kano State Government and is committed to supporting efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region.”
The ONSA also addressed allegations that Mallam Nuhu Ribadu facilitated the return of Aminu Ado Bayero to Kano.
The situation in Kano remains delicate, with the state government and traditional institutions navigating the complexities of leadership and governance. The ONSA calls for continued dialogue and cooperation among all parties to ensure a peaceful resolution.
