Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, earlier today join the dispute at the Supreme Court over the controversy generated by the new naira notes which are not in circulation.

Sanwo-Olu commends the patience and calmness of the citizen. He further stated that the Lagos State Government has joined other States at the apex court in finding lasting judiciary solutions to the crisis.

The hearing on the crisis of the new naira notes was held today at the Supreme Court but was subsequently adjourned till 22nd, February 2023.

Mr. Governor said the position of the first hearing at the apex court which came up on 8th February 2023 has not changed. Hence the old notes remained legal tender.

The Governor warned those rejecting the old notes to desist from doing so or they face prosecution. "It is against the law to reject the old notes, as doing so is contrary to the position of the Supreme Court."

Sanwo-Olu pleaded with everyone to remain law-abiding, and shun mischief makers who may want to exploit this temporary situation to promote their anti-people agenda. He further stated that the Judiciary will resolve all the issues around the currency shortage crisis.

To ease the crisis among the Lagosians, the state has started the distribution of the food packs, while the 50% fares slash on all State transportation services facilities continues, Sanwo-Olu stated.
