The family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, fellow citizens, and leaders around the world for the outpouring of love, solidarity, and support during their time of mourning.

In a statement released on behalf of the family, eldest son Yusuf Buhari conveyed heartfelt appreciation for the dignified tributes, condolence messages, and personal visits extended following the passing of the elder statesman and former military head of state.

“We are overwhelmed by the immense compassion and respect shown to our late father, President Muhammadu Buhari. The overwhelming support from home and abroad has been a source of strength and comfort to our family,” the statement read.

The family specifically thanked President Tinubu for leading the nation in honoring Buhari's legacy, describing his personal visit and official tribute as “a gesture that reaffirmed the enduring respect between two leaders and a shared commitment to Nigeria’s unity and democratic journey.”

The family also acknowledged the condolences from regional leaders, including ECOWAS heads of state, the African Union, and global figures such as UN Secretary-General António Guterres, King Charles III, U.S. President Joe Biden, and others who celebrated Buhari’s contributions to global peace and domestic reforms.

“We are grateful for the kind words and gestures from across political divides, faith communities, and traditional institutions. Every prayer and message has reminded us of the legacy of service our father leaves behind.”

As preparations continue for commemorative events in honor of the late president, the Buhari family urged Nigerians to uphold the values he stood for — integrity, discipline, and patriotism.

“We ask that you remember him not just in words, but in deeds — by building a stronger, fairer, and more united Nigeria,” the family added.
