The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wishes to address the recent resignation of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the party. Speaking to journalists in Bauchi, the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, emphasized that Atiku’s departure is neither unprecedented nor alarming.

“This is not the first time; we’re expecting him back,” Damagum stated, underscoring the party’s familiarity with Atiku’s political movements over the years.

Atiku, who has been a central figure in the PDP since its inception, cited irreconcilable differences and a deviation from the party’s founding principles in his resignation letter dated July 14, 2025. However, the PDP leadership views this move as part of a recurring pattern in his political journey, which has included multiple exits and returns to the party.

Damagum reaffirmed the PDP’s resilience and confidence, noting that the party remains focused on its mission and is not shaken by individual departures. “We understand the dynamics of political strategy, and we remain committed to our values and the Nigerian people,” he added.

The PDP continues to stand as a beacon of democratic ideals and welcomes constructive engagement from all stakeholders, including those who may choose to return in the future.
