The management of a leading government hospital in Ogun State has taken disciplinary action in response to a recent incident of alleged assault within its facility, involving a senior staff member and a student nurse.
Following an internal investigation into the reported altercation, the hospital’s disciplinary committee has issued a formal warning to the head of the affected clinical unit for supervisory negligence and inappropriate handling of staff relations. In addition, the student nurse involved in the incident has been placed on temporary suspension pending further review of her conduct and compliance with professional standards.
According to the hospital’s spokesperson, the incident, which occurred earlier this week, involved a physical and verbal confrontation that disrupted service delivery and breached the ethical expectations of the health institution.
“We maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of violence, harassment, or professional misconduct within our premises,” the statement read. “As an institution entrusted with public health and the training of future medical professionals, it is our duty to uphold discipline, accountability, and a safe working environment for all.”
The hospital emphasized that both actions—the warning and the suspension—follow due process and aim to reinforce discipline while encouraging a culture of mutual respect among staff and trainees. Management also noted that further conflict resolution and emotional intelligence training will be rolled out for staff and interns in the coming weeks.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to the protection of both patients and personnel and encouraged individuals to report any incidents of abuse or workplace hostility through proper channels.
