Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South Senatorial District, has officially announced his resignation from the Labour Party (LP) and his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party.

The announcement was made during Wednesday’s plenary session of the Nigerian Senate, where Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Senator Imasuen’s letter of defection on the Senate floor. In the letter, Senator Imasuen cited “irreconcilable internal crises and leadership challenges” within the Labour Party as the primary reason for his departure.

“This decision follows extensive consultations with my constituents, political stakeholders, and supporters across Edo South Senatorial District,” the senator stated. “My supporters have expressed a strong desire for me to join a party that offers national prominence and political relevance.”

Senator Imasuen, who was elected under the Labour Party platform in the 2023 general elections, emphasized his commitment to aligning with the federal government’s development-driven agenda. He expressed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and pledged to continue serving the people of Edo South with dedication and integrity.

“I remain fully committed to the service of my constituents and to the democratic ideals of this Senate,” he concluded.

Senator Imasuen’s defection marks another high-profile exit from the Labour Party, which has faced mounting internal challenges since the 2023 elections. His move to the APC is expected to reshape the political dynamics in Edo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
