Senator Adams Oshiomhole has addressed the recent controversy surrounding his experience at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, where he was denied boarding despite holding a valid ticket and completing online check-in.
Speaking on the incident, Senator Oshiomhole stated, “I got to the airport, I have my ticket, they denied me. Somebody went in, and ah, it's Oshiomhole. Then the senior manager came out and said, 'Oga, let's see how I can sort you out.' I said, 'No, I don’t want personal favors.'” The senator emphasized that his refusal to accept preferential treatment was rooted in his commitment to fairness and justice for all Nigerians.
Oshiomhole further alleged that passengers were being denied boarding while tickets were being resold at inflated prices to last-minute buyers. He described the situation as a systemic issue affecting ordinary Nigerians, stating that he witnessed multiple passengers—including a woman with a six-month-old baby—being forced to pay exorbitant fees to secure a seat on the next available flight.
The senator, a former governor of Edo State and ex-president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, has vowed to push for greater accountability in Nigeria’s aviation sector. He called for regulatory agencies to step in and ensure airlines adhere to fair and transparent policies.
