Protesters have gathered at the Ikeja Underbridge in Lagos to mark Democracy Day, voicing concerns over economic hardship and insecurity under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The demonstration, organized by civil society groups and pro-democracy activists, has drawn significant attention due to the heavy police presence at the scene.
Security forces, including officers from the Nigeria Police Force’s Area F Division, have been deployed to monitor the protest and maintain order. While the demonstration has yet to officially commence, protesters have begun assembling, carrying placards and banners demanding economic reforms and improved governance.
Authorities have designated Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota as the official protest venue, restricting demonstrations outside this area. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Owohunwa Adegoke, held a meeting with civil society leaders ahead of the protest to ensure peaceful conduct.
