Authorities have detained a 14-year-old student following a tragic incident at Françoise Dolto Secondary School, where a teaching assistant was fatally stabbed during a routine bag search.
The victim, a 31-year-old teaching assistant, was attacked outside the school premises as students arrived for the day. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but the injuries proved fatal. The suspect was immediately apprehended and taken into custody by local law enforcement.
French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the attack, calling it part of a "senseless wave of violence" affecting schools across the country. Education Minister Elisabeth Borne, who introduced bag searches earlier this year, has traveled to Nogent to support the school community and law enforcement.
This incident has reignited concerns over school safety, with officials emphasizing the need for stricter preventive measures. Recent reports indicate that nearly one in ten school bag searches have resulted in the seizure of knives.
