Grammy Award-winning R&B artist Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from an alleged assault at a London nightclub in February 2023. The 36-year-old singer appeared at Southwark Crown Court today, where he formally denied accusations of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

The charges relate to an incident at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, where Brown and co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, also known as rapper HoodyBaby, are alleged to have assaulted music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle, followed by punches and kicks. Brown also faces additional charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon. Pleas on those charges are scheduled for July 11, 2025.

Brown, who was arrested in Manchester in May upon arriving in the UK for his “Breezy Bowl XX” tour, was released on conditional bail set at £5 million. Under the terms of his release, he must reside at a court-approved address, surrender his passport when not traveling, and avoid contact with the alleged victim or the nightclub in question.
