In light of the escalating violence and political unrest surrounding the local government elections in Osun State, the Chief of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene decisively to prevent further chaos. The recent turmoil, marked by armed confrontations and tragic fatalities, threatens not only the stability of Osun State but also the democratic fabric of Nigeria.

The local government crisis erupted following a contentious Court of Appeal ruling that reinstated previously sacked council officials, leading to violent clashes between supporters of the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Reports indicate that at least six lives have been lost as political thugs clashed in a desperate bid to seize control of local government secretariats across the state.

“We are witnessing a dangerous escalation of political violence that could spiral out of control if immediate action is not taken,” stated the APC chief. “President Tinubu must act now to uphold democracy and restore order in Osun. The people deserve governance free from fear and intimidation.”

The APC chief emphasized that the ongoing crisis is not merely a local issue but one that could have far-reaching implications for political stability in the South-West region and beyond. “The actions of certain factions within our party have raised serious concerns about our commitment to democratic principles,” he added. “We cannot allow power struggles to undermine our collective progress.”

In a statement, the APC chief urged all stakeholders, including security agencies, to maintain neutrality and professionalism during this critical period. “The security forces must not be used as instruments of political oppression. Their role is to protect citizens and uphold the law,” he said
