The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), a prominent socio-cultural organization representing the interests of northern Nigerians, has expressed deep dissatisfaction with the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Following a series of meetings and discussions among its members, the AYCF has concluded that the northern populace feels betrayed by the promises made during the 2023 elections and is now prepared to seek alternatives in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.

In a statement released today, AYCF President Yerima Shettima articulated the growing discontent among northerners, highlighting that many regret their support for Tinubu due to his administration's failure to address critical issues such as security, economic hardship, and educational deficiencies. Shettima emphasized that the region's challenges have only intensified under Tinubu's leadership, leading to a palpable sense of anger and frustration among constituents.

“The sentiment in the North is clear: if President Tinubu does not take immediate and effective action to rectify these pressing issues, he risks losing our support in 2027,” Shettima remarked. He noted that while some of the challenges predate Tinubu’s presidency, it is his responsibility to implement solutions that resonate with the needs of the northern people.

The AYCF has called for a comprehensive review of Tinubu's policies, particularly those affecting economic reforms and security measures. The forum insists that these policies must reflect a more humane approach that prioritizes the welfare of citizens over political expediency. “Economic reforms should not impoverish those they are meant to serve,” stated Shettima. “We need leadership that listens and responds to our needs.”
