The recent remarks made by Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah have raised significant concern, prompting a response from Kunle Wizeman Ajayi, a prominent Nigerian political commentator and activist. According to Ajayi, the actions of the Nigerian government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are nothing short of a deliberate attempt to undermine the country's progress and welfare, an assertion which contradicts Kukah's seemingly conciliatory stance.

In a public statement, Ajayi criticized Kukah’s failure to acknowledge the gravity of the situation in Nigeria, particularly in relation to the presidency of Bola Tinubu. Ajayi asserts that President Tinubu, despite presenting a façade of leadership and hope, was always poised to loot and destroy the country’s resources for personal gain.

"Bishop Kukah must stop confusing Nigerians with his statements that appear to downplay the severity of the current administration's failings. President Tinubu came to power prepared to loot and destroy Nigeria's economy, not to fix it." Ajayi stated. "It is important for leaders like Bishop Kukah to stop lending legitimacy to a government that has consistently failed to deliver on its promises, leaving Nigerians to bear the brunt of its incompetence."

Ajayi's strong words come amidst ongoing nationwide dissatisfaction with Tinubu's policies, including the controversial fuel subsidy removal, which has led to increased hardship for ordinary Nigerians. Many, including Ajayi, argue that these measures, rather than alleviating the economic crisis, have worsened the lives of millions of Nigerians, particularly the most vulnerable sectors of society.

The activist went on to accuse the Tinubu administration of engaging in questionable financial dealings, pointing to the growing concerns over corruption, mismanagement, and lack of transparency within the government. Ajayi contends that the ruling elite’s actions and policies are taking Nigeria down a path of destruction, further deepening the already existing social and economic crises.

"Bishop Kukah, by suggesting that we should simply sit back and allow the government to 'fix things,' is ignoring the realities that everyday Nigerians are facing. How can one expect the man who helped bring us here to be the one to lead us out? The truth is, Tinubu has been prepared to loot and destroy – his actions in power so far are a testament to this," Ajayi continued.
